Meet The Team
Dan Murphy
Dan is the Owner and President of MAG Insulation. An engineer by training, Dan has always had a passion for building and construction having served as an carpenter, installer, field engineer, project manager and executive throughout is career. Dan earned his Civil Engineering degree from Michigan Tech University and his Masters in Business Administration from DePaul University.
Ray First
Project Manager & Estimator, oversees all field and management activities for MAG’s Residential Services division. From evaluations, site visits, estimates, sales and project management, Ray handles all aspects of MAG’s residential and light commercial business.
RYAN KAZMERSKI
General Superintendent, coordinates, schedules and manages all field crews, rigs and equipment. Ryan oversees all field activities and works with both our customers and our management team to ensure all projects are completed on time.
Wendy Starr
Accounting & HR Manager, responsible for accounting, payroll, payables, receivables, human resource and office management duties. Wendy keeps our accounting systems in order and ensures all of us; customers, management and field crews have everything in order.
Our History
Douglas Cobb founded Metal Arts Construction (Mt. Pleasant, MI) performing commercial and residential metal stud framing, insulation, drywall, and acoustical ceilings.
Douglas Cobb and Mark Greenwald (Owner of Greenwald Construction) begin Metal Arts Greenwald (M.A.G.) Insulation as a joint venture specializing in blow-in blanket system fiberglass insulation (BIBS) for new homes.
Metal Arts Construction takes sole ownership of MAG Insulation.
Dan Murphy and Harold Murphy purchase Metal Arts Construction and MAG Insulation from Douglas Cobb.
MAG Insulation adds spray polyurethane foam insulation to its insulation services and begins to experience steady growth in the residential and commercial insulation markets.
MAG Insulation expands its residential retrofit insulation operation and doubles annual sales as rising energy prices spur significant growth. MAG wins the Dow Chemical Company Service Award for its work on Michigan’s first Thermax Total Wall System installation at 735 Forest Avenue Commercial Development in Birmingham, MI.
MAG Insulation becomes a stand-alone entity spinning its operations off from Metal Arts Construction. Led by Dan Murphy, MAG becomes the largest dealer of Demilec SPF insulation in the state of Michigan.
MAG moves all operations to Auburn, MI. MAG is highlighted in Spray Polyurethane Foam industry magazine for its work on the Camp Grayling Barracks project.
MAG continues to flourish and grow its residential insulation and commercial services business with projects ranging from Lima, Ohio to Marquette, Michigan.
MAG completes upwards of 1,300 residential retro-fit attic insulation projects for Consumers Energy “Helping Neighbors” Program.
MAG lands (to date) its three largest commercial contracts; Marquette Replacement Hospital, Northern Michigan University Housing and Sawyer International Airport Hangar Insulation Retro-fit. Over the next two years, successfully completing each projects on-time and under budget.
MAG adds waterproofing to its portfolio of commercial services.
MAG continues to flourish and grow its residential, commercial and industrial services having established itself as one of the leading insulation and waterproofing contractors in Michigan.

- Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA). ABAA performs third party audits of exterior spray foam and air barrier applications. We are proud to say MAG has never failed an ABAA inspection.
- MAG is Manufacturer Certified by these great companies: Dow, Dupont, BASF, Icynene-Lapolla, W.R. Meadows, Henry Company, Monoglass and Applegate Insulation.
